Birchbox August 2013

This month’s Borchbox has a theme.  They always do.  I can’t remember the theme for this month and I am too lazy to get up.  But you can trust me when I say that the theme has nothing to do with the contents.

Oh…I just pulled up the Birchbox site to link the products and I saw that the theme is “Finishing School.”  So you can take a look at the products and see if you think they are fitting for the theme.

photo (1)Whish Deodorant Swipe ($22.00) - All-natural ingredients saccharomycess ferment, odenone, and chaparral extract work together to reduce odors and hair growth. The single-use packets are the perfect addition to your purse, gym bag, or desk drawer at work.

This product is interesting.  It says they also inhibit hair growth.  I have a odd (yet very lucky) quirk in that I have hardly any hair in my armpits.  I hate the word armpit by the way.  Anyway, it’s pretty awesome because I rarely shave them, and I don’t have to deal with razor burn or stubble.  I will stash this in my purse in case I am feeling stinky one day.  I am sure it will get used.  I don’t see myself shelling out for more of these though.

Whish Exfoliating Body Wash ($22.00) - Lemon extract, apple extract, and green tea extract work together to even and brighten skin tone. Sugar cane and bamboo powder exfoliate, while organic shea butter and organic coconut oil hydrate. Oat extract is known for its anti-inflammatory properties.

This has a delicious coconut scent and I really enjoy the Whish shave cream sample I received so I am excited about this one.  According to the Birchbox site this is gentle enough to be used on the face.  I probably won’t do that, but I like that it will be gentle on my sensitive skin.

OC8 Professional Mattifying Gel ($41.00) - This fast-drying gel creates a soft, invisible layer that absorbs oil and nixes redness for eight full hours, thanks to microscopic Acrysorb® particles. What it doesn’t do: leave skin sticky or clog pores.

This product sounds awesome and I am excited to try it.  I am kind of hoping it doesn’t work though.  I don’t want to fall in love with something that costs $41 for 1.6 oz.

Cailyn Gel Eyeliner ($21.00) - The easy-to-blend potted formula lasts for 24 hours and is water-resistant. And unlike most long-wear formulas, this all-natural variety sits comfortably on delicate skin.

I actually received this in my Glam Bag and I still haven’t tried it.  That one was purple so I am hoping I like this product and can use both of them.  I really need to start using up my samples.  I am planning to stop buying anything besides my monthly Birchbox and Glambag and I really want to start using up some of the stuff I have.  I think that pretty regularly though and it still hasn’t happened.  But this time I mean it!  Probably.

Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper ($10.00) –  Curls are notoriously temperamental, and this hardworking serum fights off the frizz-inducing effects of humidity and dryness alike. The water-activated formula provides weightless hold and brings misbehaving strands into line. It’s great for all kinds of curls, from kinks to ringlets.

So I kind of love this product.  I have tried multiple curly hair products this summer and this is my favorite.  It is liquid…watery liquid, which really surprised me, but that helps keep my hair from feeling coated and weighed down.  I let my hair air dry and it didn’t get frizzy!  I am going to buy this for sure.

So that is my August Birchbox.  Do you totally get the finishing school theme?  Silly.  Anyway, it was alright this month.  I always feel happy if I find something I want to buy.  I have seen some cool things in other people’s boxes though.  Were you happy with yours this month?

  1. Hey I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Award! Can’t wait to read your answers:

  2. You got a pretty awesome box! A full sized Cailyn liner? I think my entire box was worth less than that product alone lol. I actually got the purple one in my glambag as well, and really liked it. Now that you have two you should definitely try them out. I was pretty impressed by the purple one – it’s just as good as the Smashbox gel liners I’ve tried.
